I'm Starting a New Series of Posts called "My Style Icon"...and Here's My First

For my first "My Style Icon" post (ever) I deemed it appropriate
to highlight my first style icon (ever). At least, the
first style icon I can recall.

Ali MacGraw.

I can vividly remember being very young, maybe 6 or 7, and
seeing Love Story for the first time. I was in shock and awe. The shock
was due to the ending of the film (oh how it ripped out my little heart..
this was one of the first times I remember thinking "why
do bad things happen to good people?") and the awe...
well, that was due to Ms. Ali MacGraw. Her beauty and
style in that movie enchanted me.

This is the first time I remember feeling complete adoration
for clothing and a particular style.

Her many looks in this movie perfectly captured the 70s in
 a chic and collegiate-looking way.

This camel coat means "never having to say you're sorry".
It is perfection.

And this high waisted tan flared skirt paired with a tucked-in
fitted black sweater, a thick black leather belt and black tights
is one of the highlights of the movie.

She is the essence of tomboyish boxiness meets
feminine flowiness. Peacoats on peacoats
and tartan skirts on tartan skirts.
And, although, she is most certainly
all-American and does reflect that in her style, I have always
found a slight Parisian flare to her looks.

Ali MacGraw is someone whose style has continued to influence
me throughout my life. I find her looks outside of
Love Story just as inspiring. She was the very essence of fashion in the 70s.

She's got a killer middle part, refreshingly natural beauty
and a style that looks like she must've
planned each outfit a month ahead of time, yet, somehow,
always looks effortless and fun.

All of this is what makes her completely iconic and
one of the only people in the world I will still adore
after they've said the words "screw Paris".
